Debeli kamen Logger's House

History of Debeli kamen

From ancient forests to shifting borders.

Heritage

In the mighty Javorniki forests, at an altitude of 950 m above sea level, stands the forestry house. The house was built in the mid-19th century on a spacious clearing, which is said to have been named after the huge stone lying nearby. In the past, the building served as accommodation for forest managers - loggers and their families, who served the Haasberg estate.

Rapallo Border

After the Rapallo Treaty of 1920, this area became a strategic point between the Kingdom of Italy and the Kingdom of Yugoslavia. The region is still dotted with remnants of the “Vallo Alpino” (the Alpine Wall) and various types of Italian military fortifications, making every hike through this area a journey through the history of the 20th century.

Forestry

Hunting

The forests of Javorniki are home to numerous species of game and large wildlife. In these forests you can encounter deer, roe deer, wild boar... Permanent residents also include bears, wolves, and lynx. If you wish to observe bears in the wild, we can organize an observation with an experienced guide in a closed and safe observation post, and if you want to experience hunting game live, hunters can participate in autumn hunts in our hunting grounds.
